Q. Does dimming affect halogen lamp life?
A. No, not at all. Dimming increases incandescent lamp life. Halogen lamps are incandescent lamps with a tungsten filament. Smart-Bus's pilot test data suggests that halogen lamps will have an expected lamp life similar to other incandescent lamps when dimmed. As an example, 1 type of halogen lamp with a rated life of 2,000 hrs dimmed to 80 V has a life extension of at least 5 times.

Q. Why do dimmers get warm, and is this safe?
A. The technical explanation: During normal operation, solid-state dimmers generate heat. A solid-state dimmer is roughly 98% efficient – 2% of the power is dissipated as heat, which causes the dimmer to feel warm to the touch. The closer a dimmer is run to full output and the higher the load (watts) on the dimmer, the warmer it will feel.
This is perfectly normal and safe. Smart-Bus dimmers are designed to the strictest UL safety standard.

Q. How Much Load can, Din Rail, Dimmer take?
A. Smart-Labs ® has designed the (G4) dimmers to take a Maximum Load of 12Amps, however it is always advisable to de-Rate and calculate maximum load at 10Amps only as per Specification sheet.
Q. What happen if we put big power supply more than 2A/24VDC ( Note: In Clipsal Schneider case, we damage network if we do that.) so will that also similarly damage the dimmers in smart bus case?
A. No, there is no harm at all, the S.BUS is designed with high flexibility and good amount of protection. You can add big power supply as you like, in example 30A/24VDC for even bigger Amp. to one dimmer or relay with only one switch.. the s.bus will still function perfectly. Smart-BUS is designed way differently compared to other manufacturers.

Q. What is the maximum voltage that the smartbus can take before it burns its chip?

A. 45 VDC max

Q. What happen to the bus chip if all the wires of the bus Are shorted?
A. Mostly nothing because s-bus is protected, and once the short circuit issue is resolved then sbus should function normally.

Q. Can we use electric cables instead of data cables to communicate between bus in case we have no data cables?
A. Yes, you can use any conductor cable which is brass, that should work fine.
Q. What fuses are used to protect against overloading inside the Smart-BUS?
A. sBUS uses slow burning fuses to protect the Modules. Usually 4A fuse is used with every channel of 2A, while 6Amp fuse is used with every channel rated 3A, and 10 Amp fuse is used for every channel rated as 6Amp. (in case you overload and burn the fuse, request pro technician to Simply replace it for you)
Q. How long the Smart-BUS wire can be?
A. we tested the BUS as far AS 1200 meters of distance and found operational. (Bigger Conductor is needed for Power in such case)
Q. Does every S-BUS Dimmer have scenes built into the module, or we have to buy scene controller?
A. No need to buy any extra modules, each dimmer has scene controller function built in. Smart-Group always adds all needed features as possible inside same module to help save money, time, space and environment.
Q. what if we have 2 channels installed on the 6A dimmer, but one of them is only 2Amps, while the other one is 7.5Amps, will that burn the dimmer?
A. As long as the total load is below 10Amps collectively, the Dimmer will remain functional. Meaning that 7.5Amp Load can be handled without any issue since the other load is below 2Amp. making both loads total 9.5Amp that is within permissible range.
Q. Do we have to de-rate because of Spark effect when we design electrical digial Relays control panels DRP or Dimmer Panels DDP?
A. No. you do not have to de-rate. We have done this for you already when we have designed the Relays and Dimmers at our R&D labs. (To be on safer side, all you need is to accurately calculate the load based on your country Electrical Voltage and constant fluctuations if any)
Q. How many dimmers can be connected with the Train connecter that is built in the dimmer Module?
A. from experiment, we had no limitation; you can connect as many as you can inside the DP on Single DIN-rail. In case you have multiple Din-Rails, please bridge using side S-BUS Connector.
Q. what happens if communication BUS voltage drops below 24VDC, and what happen if it exceed that? (Question case example: in Dynalite case, the running BUS voltage is 12VDC, but we usually lose data communication if it drops below 10VDC, and network cards burn in case voltage is more than 15VDC)
A. In Smart-BUS case, the recommended working voltage is 24VDC, there is tolerance between 10-32 volts with perfect operation. If voltage drop below 8VDC then communication might be lost, and if voltage exceeds 45VDC then also S-BUS network ports will burn. When we designed the smartHome-BUS, we made it as bullet proof as possible with maximum voltage change flexibility imaginable at any normal case.
Q. What is radio frequency interference (RFI)?
A. RFI is a buzzing noise that may occur in some audio and radio equipment when solid-state dimmers are used nearby. Although every Smart-Bus dimmer contains a filter to suppress RFI, additional filtering may be required in some applications. Typical examples of RFI-sensitive equipment are AM radios, stereo sound systems, broadcasting equipment, intercom systems, public address systems, and wireless telephones.

Q. Doesn't turning the lights on and off so quickly decrease bulb life?
A. No. Switching the bulb does not decrease bulb life; heat decreases bulb life. By reducing heat, bulb life is increased.

Q. What is the Range of Motion detection and IR range for every sensor?
A. a motion Detection range of 10 meters diameter (5 in every direction from sensor center) if installed at height of 3m. and IR transmission Range of 12 meter diameter (6 in every direction).
Q. How many programmable logic lines available in every multi-function sensor?
A. there are 32 Logic lines and 250 programmable flags. (Each sensor is considered a complete Zone Automation control commander; it would have been complete system if it has built in Time clock with battery).
Q. which sensors have built-in Temperature couple and what is the use of this?
A. both 9in1 and 6in1 sensors have built-in Thermal couple for temperature reading. It can be used to Pair with HVAC2, or to act as temperature reading source for SW, Touch screen, or DDP. It can also be used to average the temperature of several reading devices or points in the same space. Best application for it is the use in one zone where only one HVAC supply multi areas, in such case if temperature threshold is reached in the slave zone then AC shall trigger regardless if Main DDP desired or current temperature settings are differently assigned. Priority will be given to the critical zone as per logic command.
Q. How many Dry contact inputs the Multi-sensor Have, and can we put more than one door or window magnetic contact on single zone?
A. each Multi-Sensor have 3 addressable zones, Only 2 of which are assigned for dry Inputs. On each addressable dry input, installer can connect on series as many doors or windows needed, but must understand that either one of them is open then, all will be reported unsecure.
